“To find health should be the object of the physician. Anyone can find disease”

– A.T.Still

“It is more important to know what sort of person has the disease than what sort of disease a person has.”

There was an osteopath, a physio and a chiropractor… What’s the difference?

Differences in diagnosis and treatment between these commonly confused bodywork practices tend to disappear as practitioner experience increases, since good health is the common goal. Philosophical differences however, inform practice and in general:

Chiropractors tend to focus on longer term programs of spinal manipulation to correct vertebral imbalances which are thought to impact neurological outflow.

Physiotherapists tend to focus on specific areas of the body and typically do less hands on-work, favouring exercise protocols based on diagnosis and referral from doctors.

Osteopaths tend to look at the whole body as a unit focusing on tailored approaches to a typically much wider array of conditions. Treatment may use strong spinal manipulation but there are many other techniques available to bring about health.
